The National Ombudsman Resource Center maintains an on-line library that lists government reports, federal laws and regulations and the complete Nursing Home Reform Law of 1987. This center is currently operated by Consumer Voice, The National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care in cooperation with the National Association of States United for Aging and Disabilities.

Nursing Home Compare. This tool at the U.S. Government's offiicial web site has detailed information about every Medicare and Medicaid-certified nursing home in the country.

Nursing Home Report Card Information

The Indiana State Department of Health, Long Term Care Division, makes nursing home survey information available to consumers to help evaluate the quality of care provided by Indiana's Medicare and Medicaid certified nursing homes. The Division inspects nursing homes at least every 9-15 months to assess compliance with federal standards of care such as adequacy of staffing, quality of care, and cleanliness of facilities. In addition, as necessary, the Division investigates complaints and serious incidents occurring within a nursing home. The results of the surveys are reported to the consumers through the Nursing Home Report Cards. Check out the reports of nursing homes near you.

Piecing Together Quality Long-Term Care: A Consumer"s Guide to Choices and Advocacy

The consumer guide, developed in March 2011 by the National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care, educates people with disabilities and older adults about their options for long-term services and supports and empowers consumers to be self-sadvocates for quality long-term care. The guide includes tips from consumers as well as information and resources to assist people currently living in nursing homes to move back into the community. The guide is available in several formats, including an HTML version, A PDF version and audio portions of the guide. A hardcopy of the guide can be purchased.

United Senior Action first produced the Caregiver Digest, A Guide to Indiana Long Term Care Resources in 2009. This helpful tool for caregivers has chapeters on nursing homes, getting good care and what to do when problems arise.
