Tribute and Thanks to Caregivers
Adapted From: Chicken Soup for the Caregiver’s Soul
by Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen and LeAnn Thieman.
Thank you for all the love, kindness, hope, comfort and dignity you give to those you care for. It is your strength and caring that make a difference, for without you their lives would be unbearable. You bring joy to their world and you comfort them in a way no one else can. We know that you want the very best for your loved one. You strive to make sure they get the best possible care. You visit as often as you can and speak up when things aren’t right. You strive to make their days as pleasant as can be—by putting up drawings from their grandchildren, bringing flowers from your yard, listening to a ballgame with them, taking them for a walk…you do anything you can think of to bring a smile to their faces. Thank you. We know your rewards are the little things you experience each day, the grateful look you see in their eyes, the occasional laugh that brightens your day, the warm hug you receive when you leave, and the gentle squeeze of your hand as they thank you for being there. These rewards are the small heartfelt things that allow you to go on. Thank you. We know that you feel overwhelmed, exhausted and despairing at times. There are moments when you feel you can’t do this for one more minute—and yet you continue on. Thank you for never giving up and for giving when you feel there is nothing left to give. You are truly doing noble work. Please know that it makes a difference, and that your efforts are valued and appreciated more than you will ever know.
